Mong Sport N98L

This is a very fun plane to fly. I have owned it for 5 years and fly it once or twice a week weather permitting. I have let many local pilots fly the plane and they all have enjoyed the little biplane. The only reason for selling the airplane is that I want a more aggressive biplane for aerobatic completion. The plane does all the loops and rolls you want but I am looking to go the next level and start I.A.C. completion.

This airplane was built by Ed Fisher and finished in 2002. Ed owns the rights to the Mong Sport design and used this airplane as a prototype for the new MS-3 fuselage. The original design would not fit a "normal" sized person. I am 6ft 220lbs and fit fine. It can be configured to fit even a larger person if needed. Ed used N number N98L that came from another Mong Sport so the serial no. HL-1 was also used.

It has 239.47hrs Total Time and 11.56hrs on an overhauled 100hp Continental engine. These times will continue as I fly it. It has light weight Slick magnetos, new ignition harness, light weight Skytec starter and super light weight lithium battery for starting. No generator. It has an antenna mounted in the fuselage and a pocket sewn in the side wall panel if you want to use a hand held radio. A Sensenich metal propeller 69x52 is installed and it is about perfect for the plane/engine combination. The airplane weighs 595lbs.

I am a FAA AP/IA rated mechanic that specializes in rebuilding engines. This engine was built specifically for this airplane. All internal rotating parts have been balanced. The intake system was tuned. I changed the oil and performed a compression test after 5hrs. All cylinders read 76/80 and I expect it to only get better as the rings fully seat. It has a spin on oil filter. No oil leaks whatsoever. No oil usage.

The airplane shows very well. It always draws a crowd when I take it to fly-ins and pancake breakfasts. The paint has held up very well. The only place that show some wear and tear are the fuselage side from seat belts and rt wing. The fabric is fine just some minor paint damage. The paint on the left lower wing tip has been touch up by the previous owner. There are a few chips here and there but nothing that really detracts from its looks. The paint has been touched up on the wheel pants. I wanted to be upfront and accurate with the description. I do not want to hide anything. The plane is used and sold as-is.

This airplane is not light sport eligible. It is a sport biplane not a cub. Light on the controls and responsive. Not squirrely on landing like a Pitts.

The auction will run for a week. I can be called at 262-203-0799 to schedule an appointment for viewing or answer questions. It is NO RESERVE high bid wins! Please don't waste time bidding unless you are prepared to follow thru with the purchase. I reserve the right to end the auction early as it is advertised elsewhere.
