1972 Piper Cherokee 140 with the 160 conversion. This airplane is based in Spartanburg, SC at KSPA and available for inspection. The plane has been religiously annualled, all ADs have been kept current and upgrades to engine and internal areas of the plane have been done nearly every year. You will not find a more reliable and safe and easy-to-fly time building aircraft on the market. There are two 50/50 partners in the plane. I am looking to upgrade to a larger family hauler.
Costs to operate are pennies compared to rent or other aircraft you may be considering. Fuel burn is 6-7 gal per hour in cruise. I figure 100 kts during my flight planning and I'm always right on the money. It's not a Mooney - it's a time builder and family cruiser. I've taken my family to the beach, to the midwest to see in-laws and even on a couple of business trips where driving would have been painful. This little 4-seater runs like a top. She needs paint and interior, of which the other owner is now willing to go 50/50 in on if the in-coming partner want to invest in those upgrades.
No corrosion and great "bones". Since I've been involved (over 6 years now) we've replaced/upgraded hoses, baffles, battery, alternator, wiring window, ELT, tach, and more. The only things left are the paint and interior, but when you're cruising down to the beach - you really don't think much about it. Annuals have averaged around $1500 per year (Dec annual and I'll pay for this year's annual), insurance runs about $500 per year and we tie it down outside at KSPA for $35/mo (so if you paint, you'll need to figure in hangar costs). As mentioned, this has been the cheapest way that I've been able to add hours to the logbook.
