The NC200 utilizes a micro-controller technology to display the output from an Aircraft Encoder devices in numeric form, with an input altitude data range covering the ICAO code from –1200 to +62,700 feet.
The NorCal NC200 is 2 test units in 1.
The 1st part of the NC200 provides quick testing and display of Aircraft Altitude Reporting Equipment.
The NC200 displays Encoder Altitude data in 2 ways:
First:
The NC200 displays Aircraft Encoder Altitude data on the LCD from the Aircraft
Encoder Parallel ICAO DB15 port.
This
can be done while the encoder is in the aircraft. (i.e.)
Locate aircraft encoder, disconnect cable going to encoder from
transponder.
Connect NC200 to aircraft encoder with supplied test cable, read altitude reported from aircraft encoder on NC200 LCD display.
Second:
The NC200 displays Aircraft Encoder Altitude serial data on the LCD when serial
data is received on the NC200 RS232 IN port.
This can be done while the encoder is in the aircraft.
Serial input data must be:
9600 bps, Data Bits: 8, Parity: None, Stop Bits: 1, Code: ASCII.
The 2nd part of the NC200 provides quick simulation of Aircraft Encoder Parallel and Serial Altitude.
Connect the aircraft's encoder cable from the aircraft
transponder to the NC200 and the NC200 will simulate encoder altitude
data.
The user sets the altitude in the Mode C switch bank, the altitude is then displayed on the LCD and is sent out the NC200 RS232 OUT port.
The Mode C switch altitude is also placed on the Aircraft Encoder Parallel ICAO DB15 port. The transponder is now receiving its altitude data from the NC200.
The Green LED located next to the Aircraft Encoder port is active when the aircraft is providing power to the DB15 pin8 of the encoder cable. This ensures that your aircraft transponder cable is providing power to your encoder.
The Strobe, Pin7 and Pin14 of the Encoder DB15 connector are accessed with breakout wire connectors. This allows for easy testing of different types of encoders.
The NC200 in simulate mode, provides the avionics technician with a known good ICAO altitude code source for testing altitude inputs to transponders, GPS, MFD, auto-pilots and other navigation devices.
The NC200 may be used in the aircraft or on the bench making this an extremely versatile piece of test equipment.
