This is a Shadin AMS 2000 Altitude Management System (altitude alerter). Also included is a Shadin altitude encoder model 8800-M which is used to provide data to the AMS 2000. These units were installed in my aircraft and I enjoyed using them for several years. I no longer need them due to a recent instrument panel upgrade. They are working very well and are in great condition. The AMS 2000 is mounted on a custom made heavy aluminum plate which is suitable for mounting in a standard 6.25" radio rack. The plate can be removed for direct mounting in a suitable instrument panel hole.
Also included are the original operation manuals AND installation manuals.
This unit provides several altitude alerting functions:
Approaching target altitude,
Deviation from target altitude,
Approaching MDA or DH,
Gear reminder.
There are other functions as well such as instantaneous vertical speed, timers, and density altitude.
This combination of AMS 2000 and 8800 encoder will provide 10 foot resolution.
The tie-wraps in the picture are not needed due to any physical damage. They were put in place to make it easier to mount the unit because the mounting fixture is both a clamp and a mount, and it is a little awkward to clamp while you are mounting or mount while you are clamping.
The connectors have been used and the new owner will need to either splice wires to the very short remaining leads or obtain new connector pins (recommended). The connectors are standard D-shell.
The new owner should also be aware that there is a 30 second delay between power on of the AMS 2000 and the display waking up, and also a temperature dependent delay for the encoder to provide data to the AMS 2000. These delays are described in the manuals and are not an indication of a problem.
