2004 MUSTANG 2 COMPLETE AIRFRAME, ISOLATED REPAIRABLE DAMAGE, CHEAP!
THE MUSTANG II IS A 2 SEAT, SIDE BY SIDE, LOW WING EXPERIMENTAL CATEGORY
AIRCRAFT WITH GOOD LOOKS, GOOD MANNERS AND GREAT SPEEDS!
ALTHOUGH IT DOESN’T LOOK EXACTLY LIKE A MUSTANG, IT DOES HAVE A NICE
BUBBLE SLIDE-BACK CANOPY, AND IT HAS A SIMILAR LOOK TO THE VANS RV-6 AND
THE THORP T-18, SO A NICE CLEAN LOOK!
FASTER THAN THE RV-6 DUE TO IT’S LAMINAR FLOW, TAPERED WING DESIGN, THE
MUSTANG 2 CAN ACCEPT 0-320, 0-360 OR IO-360 ENGINES, WITH
MODIFICATIONS.
THE AIRPLANE HERE WAS BUILT FOR AN O-360 180 H.P. ENGINE AND CONSTANT
SPEED PROP, WHICH REQUIRED AN OPTIONAL 2” LONGER COWLING (INSTALLED ON
THIS AIRPLANE)!
WITH THE 180 HP ENGINE AND CONSTANT SPEED PROP, THIS IS A 200 MPH AIRPLANE!!
THE STANDARD FUEL IN THE MUSTANG 2 IS 25 GALLONS. NOT REALLY ENOUGH FOR
CROSS COUNTRY FLIGHT WITH A 180 H.P. ENGINE BURNING 8.5-9 GALLONS PER
HOUR, SO THE BUILDER PURCHASED THE FACTORY AUX TANKS WHICH GO IN EACH
WING CENTER SECTION, BRINGING THE FUEL UP TO
A MORE REASONABLE 37 GALLONS, OR 4 HOURS TO TANKS DRY!
BUT THIS OWNER ENVISIONED LONGER NON-STOP FLIGHTS THAN 3 HOURS PLUS
RESERVES, SO HE ALSO SPECIFIED THE VERY RARE AUX TIP TANKS FROM THE
FACTORY, REALLY COOL LOOKING, WITH INTEGRATED NAV LIGHT FAIRINGS.
NOW THE AIRPLANE CARRIES 45 GALLONS, OR 4.25 HOURS WITH IFR RESERVES!!
AND THE TIP TANKS MAKE THE AIRPLANE LOOK AWESOME!!
THIS AIRCRAFT SUFFERED DAMAGE WHEN THE LEFT GEAR LEG ATTACHMENT PARTIALLY SEPERATED ON LANDING.
THE GEAR LEG ITSELF DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE BENT AND THE MAIN AND REAR
SPARS ON BOTH THE CENTER SECTION AND THE WING OUTBOARD EXTENSION APPEAR
STRAIGHT.
THERE IS LEADING EDGE DAMAGE TO THE CENTER SECTION ON THE LEFT SIDE, AS
WELL AS SOME SKIN DAMAGE UNDER THE LEFT WING OUTBOARD PANELS, AS WELL AS
SOME LEADING EDGE SKIN DAMAGE ON THE LEFT WING PANEL INBOARD, BUT NO
DAMAGE TO THE SPARS!
THE LEFT FLAP HAS A SMALL AMOUNT OF DAMAGE.
THE FIBERGLASS WHEEL PANTS HAVE DAMAGE ON BOTH GEAR, BUT NO DAMAGE TO THE WHEELS OR BRAKES!
THE ONLY OTHER AIRFRAME DAMAGE FROM THIS INCIDENT IS TO THE LEFT
HORIZONTAL FIBERGLASS TIP, WHICH HAS A SMALL, REPAIRABLE BREAK.
THE REST OF THE AIRFRAME SHOWS VERY WELL!!
VERY NICE TAN SEATS AND FINISHED INTERIOR WITH SHOULDER HARNESSES!
THE DASH IS WELL LAID OUT, WITH AIRSPEED AND VSI GUAGES INCLUDED.
ENGINE INSTRUMENTATION IN THE FORM OF A ROCKY MOUNTAIN INSTRUMENTS MICRO MONITOR SCREEN GIVES MUCH VALUABLE DATA.
SWITCHGEAR AND CIRCUIT PROTECTION ARE INSTALLED.
THE PILOT’S STICK GRIP IS MULTI-FUNCTION, INCLUDING CONTROL OF THE
INCLUDED ELECTRIC TRIM MOTORS AND DIGITAL INDICATORS FOR RUDDER AND
PITCH TRIM!
WINGTIP STROBES ARE INCLUDED.
THE COWLINGS UPPER AND LOWER ARE UNDAMAGED!
THE LYCOMING ENGINE MOUNT IS UNDAMAGED, AS IS THE FIREWALL.
CABLES FOR THROTTLE, PROP AND MIXTURE ARE INCLUDED.
THIS IS A VERY NICE AIRFRAME, WITH 1,197 HOURS TOTAL TIME SINCE NEW!
PAPERWORK IS EXTENSIVE AND INCLUDES RECEIPTS FOR THE ENTIRE KIT, PLUS
EXTRAS, AND ALL OF THE PARTS PURCHASED AFTERWARDS, A LARGE BOX FULL,
NICELY ORGANIZED!
THIS INFORMATION TELLS ME THE KIT WAS ORDERED IN 1997, DELIVERED AND
STARTED ON IN 1998, AND FINISHED AND FLOWN STARTING IN 2004!
